Results of photoelastic investigations on single edge-notch tension specimens of varying notch angle and crack length are reported. The experimental results of Mode 1 stress intensity factors are compared with analytical results.

FOR THE determination of Mode I S.I.F for cracks and geometrical discontinuities in three dimensional photoelastic models, the usual practice is to freeze or lock the stresses in the model and analyse a slice containing the region of interest cut from the model. While several methods have been propo
In this study the shadow optical method is applied to characterize the stress-strain field in the vicinity of the tip of a crack in an aluminium alloy. Two specific areas are investigated. Firstly, the range of validity of the plane stress region near the crack tip is assessed by the variation in th
## Abstract This paper is directed towards finite element computation of fracture parameters in functionally graded material (FGM) assemblages of arbitrary geometry with stationary cracks. Graded finite elements are developed where the elastic moduli are smooth functions of spatial coβordinates whi
