Abstract

The coalescence, seen frequently in the caudal vertebrae of the giant dinosaur Dipiodocus longus, has been re‐examined. A comparison with vertebral fusion in contemporary species suggests that the changes in the dinosaur were of traumatic rather than rheumatoid type.
