## Abstract On nickel‐alumina catalysts, the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into methane is more rapid than that of carbon monoxide due to much slower de‐activation of the catalysts in the presence of the mixture (CO~2~ + H~2~). Under the same conditions, competitive hydrogenation of CO and CO~2~
