Hydrogenation of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide on iron catalysts prepared from Fe,(CO), and Fe,(CO),, supported on four activated carbons were studied. The catalysts, prepared and reduced in H, at 673 K for 12 h, were characterized by H, and CO chemisorption and TEM. The catalysts prepared from

β¦ Synopsis
CO hydrogenation on l%Ru/SiO in-situ infrared spectroscopy a e and 5%Fe/Si02 has been studied by 6 bar total pressure, s/CO = 2 and reaction temperatures ranging from 498 K to 573 K. On Ru/Si02, a band at 2034 cm-' was assigned to linearly adsorbed CO. The intensity of the band corresponding to linearly adsorbed CO was greatly reduced at 573 K, compared to reaction temperatures in the 498-548 K range. This is probably a result of dissociative CO adsorption or loss of Ru surface area by carbon deposition at high temperature. No infrared bands corresponding to molecularly adsorbed CO could-be detect_ep on Fe/SiO, during reaction. Infrared bands in the 3000-2800 cm and 1600-1300 cm-range were ascribed to reaction products adsorbed on the catalyst.
