✦ Synopsis

A cluster approach to the vibrational spectroscopy of polymers is theoretically investigated. In terms of this approach the vibrations of regular segments of irregular macromolecules do not couple with the vibrations of neighbouring "defect" units. Various examples of cluster size and partial vibrations are considered.

## Abstract A corner stone in the study of the size‐dependent properties of cluster ions in the gas phase is their structural characterization. Over the last 10 years, significant progress has been in this research field because of significant advances in the gas phase vibrational spectroscopy of m

The vibrational spectrum of the phenol-H20 cation complex is obtamed by two-colour resonant pump-probe "zero kinetic energy (ZEKE)" spectroscopy. The ZEKE electron signal only appears when the total photon energy exactly matches a transition to a cluster ion state. The results are: an accurate value
