It has been a traditional surgical practice to obliterate dead space. This rule has been applied in particular t o subcutaneous tissues, especially where fat is plentiful.
Using cholecystectomy as a model, a prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted t o determine the value, if any, of suturing subcutaneous fat.
