✦ Synopsis

A cDNA encoding a putative cytoplasmic ribosomal protein L5 from alfalfa (MsRL5), the first sequence from higher plants, has been characterized. The derived amino acid sequence of 181 residues contains the L5 signature, is 72.2~o identical to yeast ribosomal L5 and shares high identity with other RL5 peptides from eukaryotic origin. The sequence does not contain any signal or transit peptide and therefore might be cytoplasmic. In all alfalfa organs examined MsRL5 transcripts were detected at approximately equal levels.

The PTP-2 cDNA encoding an intracellular protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTPase-2) was isolated and sequenced from mouse testis and T-cell cDNA libraries. A cDNA clone encoding a small GTP binding protein (BRho) was isolated from an embryonic cDNA library of Bombyx mori that encoded a polypeptide with 202 amino acids sharing 60-80% similarity with the Rho1 family of GTP binding proteins. The effector site and one of the guanine nucleotide binding site
