In this chapter are also discussed the abnormalities in essential fatty acids status in alkoholism and the fatty acids regulation of endocrine activity. In part I1 are summarized functions of a-linolenic acid, status of w3 and a 6 fatty acids, and schizophrenia, or fatty acids and learning. A special chapter is reserved for arachidonic acid, neurotrauma and neurodegenerative diseases. The last part deals with learning, cognition and complex behavior. This part concludes by presenting a model that describes the role of esterified fatty acids and the ratio in the form of a general context. Other authors discuss the physiological role of fatty acids in infancy or oral and postingestive controls of fat intake. A special contribution is a critical review with directions for future research in omega-3-fatty acids deficiency and behavior. There is an extensive index.

This book summarizes in one volume the basic biology of esterified fatty acids.
