In this Research Review, several recent clinical neurobiologic studies in the anxiety disorders are reviewed. First, a study of abnormal cerebral blood flow in panic disorder is reviewed. Second, a brain imaging study in social phobia is discussed. And finally, two studies which support an infectious/immunological hypothesis of obsessive compulsive disorder are examined. These studies represent some of the most exciting new developments in the clinical neurobiology of the anxiety disorders.
