n order to feed their burgeoning populations, developing nations will need to double cereal production by 2050. Lal (natural resources, The Ohio State University) collects work by soil scientists and ecologists to explore possible solutions to this impending agricultural crisis. Contributors address the impact of projected climate change on soil quality and other factors, on agronomic yields and food production in different regions of the world, and on world food demands and supply. They also look at policy and economic issues related to carbon trading and enhancing agricultural production. A final chapter sets out research and development priorities.
