โœฆ Synopsis

amount of BFG and COG is burned and produces CO, which is emitted to the atmosphere.

The emission of carbon oxides cannot be completely eliminated from the blast furnacexoke oven system; there exist, however, some possibilities for a considerable decrease. Coal injection into the blast furnace reduces carbon oxide emissions through decreasing CO and CO, concentration and increasing H, concentration in BFG. Also, it significantly reduces coke demand and consequently COG production, as well as emission of other air pollutants associated with cokemaking. However, it must be emphasized that decrease in COG production should be followed by energy saving improvements in the steel plant to balance energy supply and energy demand. A comparison of the all-coke with the coal injection situation reveals that the system consumes less coal for the latter case.

This study addresses the effect of coal injection into the blast furnace on the emission of carbon oxides from both BFG and COG.
