‘Claude Gueux’ es la dramática historia de un obrero pobre («gueux» significa indigente) que un día robó para comer y fue condenado a cinco años de cárcel. La mayoría de los motivos fundamentales del arte de Victor Hugo, según habrán de manifestarse posteriormente en ‘Los miserables’, por ejemplo, están ya delineados en esta breve aunque densa obra publicada en 1834.
