Molecules of symmetry &d and Sa are achiral but following excitation to their orbitally degenerate electronic states are Mm-Teller unstable and may deform to new equilibrium structures which are chiral. Enantiomeric species are formed with equal probability. In the presence of added chiral molecules the exact equivalence of energy levels between enantiomers is destroyed. Vlbronic transitions to the differentially perturbed excited states should display circular dichroism of readily measurable strength.
