β¦ Synopsis
Photosensitized reactions of benzylchloride are studied by the time-resolved ESR method. Benzyl radicals with emission/absorption multiplet pattern are generated in acetone and acetophenone sensitized reactions. The energetics of sensitizers and benzylchloride lead us to conclude that benzylchloride dissociates even from low vibronic levels of the lowest triplet state.
