The chromosome numbers of 9 species of Daphniidae are presented. The values obtained are compared with those available in the literature. The relationship between daphnid chromosomes and daphnid systematics is discussed.

Chromosome numbers are reported for 31 Indian species. Results for Psara stultalis (2n = 60, n = 30), Malacosoma indica (50, 25) and Pygaerafulgurita (62, 31) differ from data reported by earlier workers. Eighteen species are new to cytology.
