is noted for his forthrightness and for his intolerance of fools. Nevertheless, to those who know him well, he is the kindest of people and the truest of friends. It has been my privilege and pleasure to have actively collaborated with him on a number of research projects and I should like to thank him for a memorable and, I hope, mutually rewarding, experience.

The papers in this issue of HRC & CC are in response to an invitation issued by the Editors and are a mark of the esteem in which DenisDestyis held by his fellow chromatographers.

We should all like to wish him, his wife Doreen, and son Paul everything of the best for the ensuing years.
