✦ Synopsis

The reversed-phase liquid chromatography cf Cu*+, Cd+, Ni'+, Fe2+ and Zn" chelates with 2-(3,5-dibromo-2pyridylazo)J-[ N-ethyl-N-(3-sulphopropyl)amino]phenol (35diBr-PAESPAP) and 2-(S-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-t N-propyl-N-(3-sulphopropyI)amino]phenol (S-Br-PAPS) was investigated on several cohunns packed with ion-exchange resin and with octadecylsilane-or phenyl-bonded polymer gel or silica gel. The Anionic chelates with 3,5-diBr-PAESPAP were retained on the ion-exchange resin with a mobile phase containing lipophiiic ions. However, significantly tailed peaks were obtained. A silica goal and a polymer gel with a chemically bonded C,, stationary phase gave good resolutions of the Cu2+, Co3+. Ni'+, Fe'+ and Zn2' chelates. Excellent reproducibility of the retention time and the peak height were obiained with a polymer gel column.
