A new I~-l-O-acyl-I}-l,2-diglucosyl glycoside has been isolated from the membranes of the gram positive bacterium Sarcina ventriculi. Its levels are regulated by environmental conditions such as pH and temperature. The structure was determined by 2-D-NMR spectroscopy and by mass spectrometry.
