Patient Choice is currently a favoured public service delivery model here we review the meaning of this with reference to previous public service models. We also consider the possible effects of increasing choice on efficiency, equity, quality and user‐responsiveness with a further discussion on the financial implications in the context of the politics and the financing of the National Health Service.
