Acetylcholine (ACh) is synthesized in nerve terminals from choline and acetyl coenzyme A by the cytoplasmic enzyme choline acetyltransferase (ChAT). The neurotransmitter is thereafter transported into synaptic vesicles, where it is stored until release. cDNA clones encoding a vesicular ACh transport
