β¦ Synopsis
The background is briefly described: the water and power situation in IsraeI and the Kaiser-Cata-I>tic Study (ground rules and results). The range of the plant sizes considered varies between 40-150 mgpd and 1X-300 &IN'. The method of optimintion using the power credit is discussed and justified. The advantages of dual-purpow plants wrsus sin&-purpose ones are listed and some examples given to show that the water-only piants will not be able tocompete for long with dual-purpose distillation plants. as long as both clcctricity and water can be base-loaded. The existing conditions in Israei are very suit&ii for dual-purpose plants. The cRect of some changes in the ground rules on the choice of the heat source arc noted. Some limits of compctitiwness of different heat sources are given. The need is strcsscd for a different optimization of heat cycles for duaLpurpose plants than for single-purpose ones.
