Dimethoxy[2.n]

metacyclophanes (n =3-5) gave the pseudo-ipso or pseudo-ortho products of dichlorides by chloromethylation. Dichlorides were converted to furnish multi-bridged cyclophanes by changing the chloromethyl group to a vinyl group.
