✦ Synopsis

Comparative studies were made on the activities of hexachloropropene-(36Cl) and trichloroacrylicacid-(36Cl) by two measurement procedures : (a) a glass-walled Geiger-Muller counting tube which had a glass jacket of 10 ml capacity to hold the solution around the sensitive portion of the tube, and (b) a liquid-sciniillation apparatus equipped with two multipliers in coincidence and a 2-channel impulse analyser. The relative error was found to be 5 0 . 9 %for the G-M-counter and f0.6 %for the liquid-scintillationcounter, respectively. Corrections were made to include the influence of setfabsorption of the substance and the resolving time for the measurements with the G-M-counter. In liquid-scintillationtechnique, quenching was eliminated by experimental calibration. It was shown experimentally that for 36Cl and hexachloropropene, heptachloropropane, trichloroacrylicacid, ethyleneglycol, methanol, tetrachloromethane or tetrachloroethylene the eflect of quenching can be compensated by variation of gain; but the effect of quenching from 4.5-dichloro-1.2-dithiole-Pone cannot be compensated. The influence of jktuations of current supply from the mains as well as of variations of volume and weight of the test samples were investigated.
