Abstract

The kinetically controlled diastereoselectivity in the bromine/lithium exchange reaction of the dibromoalkanes 6 and 7 has been found to be moderate (75:25) and (67:33). The thermodynamic ratio of the epimeric organolithium compounds 12a/b and 17a/b, respectively, has been determined to coincide with the kinetic ratios given above.
