β¦ Synopsis
The future growth of demand for grains in China is expected to be driven mainly by the growth of feed grain demand. Continued population growth and high incomes will lead to a sustained increase in consumption of animal products, while scarce land and water resources will limit expansion in grain production, leading to growing pressure for increasing grain imports. This article analyses feed grain and animal product markets and policy options in China. The major conclusion is that the requirement for feed grains will be determined by the quantity of animal products produced, the methods used, the price of feed sources, the price of animal products, and government policy.
