pharmaceuticals, fertilisers, heat insulation materials, food and feed additives, and water treatment. The country's capacity is around 15,000 tonnes/y and there are more than 30 small producers. The industry leaders, with capacities in excess of 500 tonnes/y, are: Shanghai Dunhuang Chemical Works; Neiqui Magnesium Products Co Ltd and Shanxi Heshun Yinhai Magnesium Industry Co Ltd. China imports significant quantities of magnesium oxide to make up the shortfall between indigenous production and demand.
