Others include: essential oils, polymers, hydrocarbon derivatives, surfactants, fatty acids, waxes, enzymes and silicones. Ingredients for hair care products accounted for $4.1 bn (28% of the total), while ingredients for colour cosmetics accounted for $2.6 bn (18% of the total) in 2005. These two market sectors are expected to grow at rates of 5.2-5.3% per annum over the next five years.
The Kline Research group assesses the US market for cosmetic speciality raw materials at $975 M in 2005. It highlights strong growth in the usage of ultraviolet absorbers, not only for products specifically marketed as sunscreens, but also for regular cosmetic and skincare products. In this field, the consumption of TiO 2 and zinc oxide is increasing.
