✦ Synopsis

The action of samarium diiodide on various keto-seienocyanates led to the chemoselective formation of the diselenide bond under very mild conditions. The flexibility of this method also allowed one to get either dialdehyde-diselenides or dicyanohydrin-dialdehydes from the same parent oxo-selenocyanates.
