✦ Synopsis
Y 16 I 19 C 8 B 4 -An Yttrium Boride Carbide Halide Containing B 2 C 4 Units. -The new title compound is prepared in ¿95 % yield by reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of Y, YI 3 , C, and B at 1050-1150 • C (sealed Ta tube, 150 h). Y 16 I 19 C 8 B 4 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 2, as determined by single crystal XRD on a twinned crystal. The structure of the semiconducting compound contains nearly planar B 2 C 4 12-units within cages formed by twelve yttrium atoms. The B 2 C 4 12-units are isoelectronic with B 2
