UV/Vis Spectroscopic Behavior of Some New Hydroxy Azocoumarin Derivatives.

-The UV/visible spectroscopic behavior of the 6 new title compounds (I), available by standard procedures, is investigated. The observed bands are assigned to electronic transitions. Whereas azocoumarins exist mainly in the azo form, derivative (If) exhibits a tautomeric azo-hydrazone equilibrium. The solvatochromic behavior of (I) is investigated by studying their spectra in pure and mixed organic solvents of different characteristics. The longer wavelength of the azocoumarins in DMF solution is assigned to an intermolecular CT transition.
