Use of Chiral Glycerol 2,3-Carbonate in the Synthesis of 3-Aryl-2oxazolidinones.

-In a search for new reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase related to befloxatone, the efficient synthesis of chiral N-arylated 5-methoxymethyl-2-oxazolidinones (III) via regiospecific ring-opening of commercially available 1,3-dioxolanones (I) with N-arylcarbamates and subsequent cyclization is described.
