New Synthesis and Crystal Structure Refinement.
-Single crystals of the title compound are prepared by reaction of amorphous BNx(NH)y(NH 2 )z, obtained from BBr 3 in NH 3 -saturated CH 2 Cl 2 , and Pr metal in a NaCl melt (tungsten crucible, N 2 atmosphere, 1250 โข C, 3 h). Pr 3 B 3 N 6 crystallizes in the centrosymmetric, trigonal space group R3c with Z = 6. The structure contains planar cyclotrinitridoborate anions, B 3 N 6 9-, which form motifs of the hexagonal BN type structure and are stacked along [001]. The B-N mean bond length as well as the interionic distance between the anions are comparable with the values in h-BN.
