Trifluorohemifullerene: Gas Phase Argon Ion Fragmentation of Hexafluorotribenzotriphenylene.

-Reaction of the trisphosphonium salt (IV) with 3,5-difluorobenzaldehyde gives a cis and trans isomeric mixture of the tris-stilbene (VI) which on photolysis produces the desired hexafluorotribenzotriphenylene (VII) together with the defluorinated compound (VIII). Gas phase argon ion fragmentation of the molecular ion of (VII) generates besides others the fragment m/z 426, the key fullerene fragment trifluorohemifullerene. -(PLATER, M.
