✦ Synopsis

Thermal Cycloaddition Reactions of Azulene-1,5-quinones and Azulene-1,7-quinones with Cyclic Dienes and Cycloheptatriene.

-Azulenequinones,e.g. (I) and (XII), react with 4Ο€ components such as (II) and (IV) to give [2+4] -[6+4] cycloadducts. From the reaction of (I) with (IV) also thermally disallowed [8+4] cycloadducts are obtained [cf. compounds (V) and (VI)]. The reaction of (I) and (XII) with triene (VIII) affords cage and ene products.
