The Trityl Group as a Removable Steric Buttress in Cycloaddition Reactions.

-The thermodynamically disfavored intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction of (I) is encouraged by use of appropriate steric buttressing. The particularly bulky trityl group restricts the degrees of conformational freedom efficiently. Thus, the two reacting amines are forced into close proximity.
