The Synthesis of Oxa-Analogues of the Kainoid Family.

-With a view to obtaining biologically interesting compounds, the title analogues such as (XII) are synthesized. Several approaches for the deprotection of the intermediates (VIII) to the desired products fail. It is interesting that the reaction of (XI) with Zn/HCOOH leads to the corresponding 5-epimers of (XII) exclusively. Compounds (XII) do not show anthelmintic or insecticidal activity.
