Synthesis of α,β-Unsaturated Sulfoxides and Aryl 1,2-x-Fused onto Furan Rings.
-ortho-Quinones react non-uniformly with α-phosphoryl sulfoxide (II) to furnish mono-olefins [cf. (III)] or fused dihydrofuran derivatives [cf. (V), (VII)]. Contrary, the p-quinones (VIII) react with (II) in the usual manner to provide the expected products (IX). -
