## Abstract The phenylhydrazone of 2‐tetralone was dilithiated with excess lithium diisopropylamide followed by condensation with several aromatic esters, and the resulting intermediates were acid cyclized to 4,5‐dihydro‐2__H__‐benz[__e__]indazoles.
