The NiCl 2 •2H 2 O-Li-Arene Combination as Reducing System. Part 3. Reduction of Carbonyl Compounds and Imines. -Various aldehydes and ketones as well as their imines are reduced by the title system in the presence of catalytic amounts of naphthalene or DTB to the corresponding alcohols and amines. Depending on the amount of the nickel salt α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones are either hydrogenated at the C-C double bond only or at the C=C and the C=O bond. The use of D 2 O containing nickel salt allows to label alcohols or amines isotopically at the hydroxy or nitrogen bearing carbon atom in a very simple way. -(ALONSO, F.;
