compounds are obtained from reactions of Cs metal, Cs2O, and Fe2O3, ZnO, or B2O3 (Ta crucibles, 300 °C, 2-3 h). Cs4[FeO3] crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 2, Cs4[ZnO3] in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4, and Cs3[BO3] in the orthorhombic space group Pbam with Z = 8. All the structures contain trigonal planar [MO3] n-(M: Fe, Zn, B) anions which have no or low point symmetry, but deviate only marginally from ideal 6m2 symmetry.
