β¦ Synopsis
Preparation, Crystal Structure, and Chemical Bonding.
-The title compound is prepared by heating a mixture of Li, Ca, and Mn under N 2 at 900 β’ C for 60 h. Single crystal XRD shows a trigonal structure (space group R3, Z = 3) where the N atoms are arranged according to the motif of a hexagonal close packing (stacking sequence AB); the octahedral holes of every second double layer are occupied by an ordered arrangement of Ca ions and Mn 2 dumbbells in a ratio of 2:1. The negative charges of the anionic layer structure are compensated by Li + ions, which occupy all the tetrahedral holes between the octahedral layers filled by Ca and Mn 2 dumbbells.
