β¦ Synopsis
The First Synthetic Microporous Yttrium Silicate Containing Framework Sodium Ions.
-A synthetic analogue of the mineral montregianite of the composition Na 2 KYSi 8 O 19 β’5H 2 O is prepared for the first time by hydrothermal synthesis from a mixture of SiO 2 , Na 2 O, H 2 O, KOH, NaOH, NaCl and Y 2 (SO 4 ) 3 β’8H 2 O at 230 β’ C. Characterization by powder XRD, 29 Si and 23 Na solid state MAS NMR, FT-IR, TG and DSC methods show that the structure (monoclinic, P2 1 /n, Z = 2) is identical with that of montregianite, where Na + cations are integrated into the framework structure. This is contrary to the structure of zeolites where the Na cations usually reside within the channels.
