✦ Synopsis

The Effects of N-Methylation on the Enantioselectivity of Catalysis by cyclo[(R)-His-(R)-Phe]. -Cyclo[(R)-His-(R)-Phe] and cyclo[(S)-His-(S)-Phe] are useful catalysts for the enantioselective formation of cyanohydrins from aldehydes and HCN. Their N-methylated derivatives, however, afford little or no enantioselectivity. Thus, both amide bonds in cyclo(His-Phe) are essential for enantioselective catalysis. -(THOEN,
