Tertiary Amine Oxidation Using HOF•CH 3 CN: A Novel Synthesis of N-Oxides.

-HOF•MeCN reacts with various tertiary amines such as pyridine derivatives, phenanthroline, aliphatic and alicyclic amines to afford the corresponding N-oxides under very mild conditions (0-25 • C) in a few minutes and in good to excellent yields. If two nitrogen atoms are present in the molecule, N-mono-and N,N-dioxides can be obtained depending on the amount of reagent used. -(
