Synthetic, Structural, and Spectroscopic Investigations of K 3 Nb 8 O 21 -Type Complex Oxides K3MTa7O21 (M: Ti, Zr). -The title compounds are prepared by a flux-supported synthesis in molten K2Mo2O7 starting with a mixture of K2CO3, TiO2 or ZrO2, Ta2O5, and MoO3 (Pt crucible, 1373 K, 18 h). The isotypic compounds crystallize in the hexagonal space group P63/mcm with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). Their structures consist of [M 6 O 24 ] building units of distorted edge-sharing MO 6 octahedra interlinked by corner-sharing MO6 octahedra. UV/VIS spectroscopy reveals a band gap of 3.26 eV for K3TiTa7O21 and 3.14 eV for K3ZrTa7O21. -(ODYNETS, I. V.;
