β¦ Synopsis
of the title compounds are prepared by a citrate complex method starting with an aqueous solution of NH4H2[NbO(C2O4)3], M(NO3)2 (M: Sr, Ba), and Bi(NO3)3, citric acid, H2O2, and HNO3 (pH 6.5 adjusted with NH3, 65 Β°C, 1 h). The resulting gel is calcined at 650-850 Β°C (4 h). Single phase orthorhombic (A2 1 am) SrBi 2 Nb 2 O 9 is obtained after calcination above 650 Β°C, while BaBi2Nb2O9 adopts a tetragonal (I41/mmm) structure. Based on the diffuse reflectance spectra, the band gaps of the obtained samples are calculated to be in the range 3.34-3.54 eV. SrBi2Nb2O9 exhibits higher photocatalytic activity for degradation of aqueous methyl orange solutions under UV irradiation than BaBi2Nb2O9. -(WU, W.;
