-A new synthesis of title compounds (III) and related derivatives is achieved using the tandem conjugate addition of nitroalkenes, e.g. (I), to ynoates, such as (II). Furthermore, (IIIa)/(IVa) is converted into the model compound (XVI) of the avermectins' southern portion. -(YAKURA, T.;
