Synthesis of Crown Analogues Derived from Bisnaphthol.
-Bisnaphthol (I) undergoes cyclocondensation with tosylates (II) under phasetransfer catalysis conditions to yield the hitherto unknown dinaphthano crowns (III). Macrocyclization of bisnaphthol (I) with xylylene dibromides affords 3:3 condensed macrocycles [cf. (V)] whose structures are supported by elemental analysis,
