Synthesis of Cross-Conjugated Trienes by Dimerization of Allenes with Palladium-Phenol Catalyst.
-An efficient synthesis of crossconjugated trienes [cf. (II), (IV)] by catalytic dimerization of monosubstituted allenes using a novel combination of Pd 2 (dba) 3 /P(p-tolyl) 3 /p-nitrophenol is described. The dimerization reaction proceeds stereoselectively to give (E,E)-trienes in almost quantitative yields under optimized conditions. A plausible reaction mechanism for the dimerization reaction is proposed and suitable conditions for the polymerization of the produced trienes are established. -(ARISAWA, MIEKO; SUGIHARA, TAKUMICHI; YAMAGUCHI,
