Synthesis of Chiral Epoxides from Aldehydes Using Sulfur Ylide Derived from Reduced Product of Baker's Yeast Reduction. -Baker's yeast reduction of the cyclic β-keto esters (I) provides an enantiomerically pure β-hydroxy ester (II) in the presence of sulfur compounds as additives. A sulfur ylide derived from (V) allows an enantioselective synthesis of epoxides (VIII).
